Title: SUBSTRATE REACTION AND PHYTOTOXICITY OF ROOT RESIDUES OF APPLE TREES
Abstract. The studies have been performed to investigate the phytotoxicity of apple root residues with respect to ‘Antonovka’ seedlings in dependence of their rate and the reaction (pH 5.2, 5.4 and 6.6) of substrate. It has been found that the amount of phenolic compounds entering to substrate from apple root residues was proportional to the rate of introduced residues and was higher at pH 5.2 and 5.4 than at pH 6.6. It was observed that the higher rate of roots was the smaller dry matter of ‘Antonovka’ seedlings. Moreover the additive effect of substrate reaction at pH 6.6 and root residues on growth inhibition of seedlings has occurred.
